After a narrow escape from the Estuary, Joe and her Platform Dweller crew embark on the open seas, their course set for l’Esperance, the land base of the Joint Councils.

When they arrive, they find that the Platform has been destroyed by a hurricane and a land base established. Instead of the peaceful settlement the Platformers were hoping for, they find different leaders battling for control over people and resources.

Concerned about the blatant segregation, Joe hacks into communications, where she discovers a dire plan to cull the Platforms.

Through loss and love, political intrigue and manipulation, the Platformers work in tandem with those around them to create a sustainable land existence for all, as they fight to save their loved ones on the Platforms.

Joe is a typical Platform teenager, living on the remnants of oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Though Land has been silent since technology was destroyed during the Moralist Revolution, she wants a career in communications and is obsessed with creating long-distance underwater connections.

When her best friend, Drayton, discovers lights moving on Land at the same time Joe picks up SOS signals, they realize the Platform’s Planning Commission seems to be ultimately responsible for the Bone Virus that precipitated the Revolution. Joe and Drayton enlist the help of Flox, a debunked scientist, to take them to investigate the remnants of human Land society—before the PC can stop them.

Hundreds of years after those with the aura, a telepathic race called the Paix, were established by the Indigo children on what is left of Earth, Lisle, Subject 46, is born an empath, but without an Aura. With no way to communicate telepathically to her parents or the Ortus, she is sent at birth to live with others of her kind.The Auraless live on the outskirts of Paix society, but Lisle feels like there is something more that she is capable of. Connecting to the Paix becomes her ultimate goal, and Lisle works to develop her Aura until the murder of a fellow Auraless rips apart the balance between the two societies. Lisle must take a journey with a select group of Auraless that will test her abilities and her loyalties in order to save the Paix and themselves.
