Mistral is orphaned at a young age, and raised by the Wichnok community and mentored by Izui, a healer and Traiteur. After her husband's early death, she commits her life to learning the ways of the ancestors, and connecting fully to her spiritual Achakinto and the omnipresent creative force of the Necwoot. 

The neighboring Blanchemort, who have historically raided the Wichnok to add to their workforce, alert Mistral to a prophecy due to failing Aiyina, the fabric of life, and she chooses to journey through a land of natural wonder and degradation with Laurus, a thaumaturge, and Crow, the King's raven keeper, to retrieve the heart of the Necwoot from the progressive Split Ones' misuse. 

Encountering prejudice and resource inequities, as well as futuristic technology creating gross imbalance in the natural world, Mistral finds a way to fully connect to her inner strength and Achakinto and fulfill the prophecy for all peoples.
